How Trauma and PTSD Can Affect People

Trauma can affect people emotionally, physically, mentally, and behaviourally. Some people develop symptoms immediately after a traumatic experience, while for others the effects may appear weeks, months, or even years later. Trauma responses can develop following accidents, abuse, bullying, loss, medical trauma, relationship breakdown, military experiences, difficult childbirth, witnessing distressing events, or ongoing stress and fear.

Every person responds differently, but common effects of trauma and PTSD can include:

  • Anxiety, panic, or constantly feeling on edge
  • Flashbacks, intrusive thoughts, or nightmares
  • Difficulty sleeping, relaxing, or feeling safe
  • Emotional overwhelm, irritability, anger, or numbness
  • Avoidance of certain places, people, or situation
  • Loss of confidence, low mood, or feeling disconnected
  • Poor concentration, brain fog, or memory difficulties
  • Physical symptoms such as tension, headaches, fatigue, or digestive issues
  • Relationship difficulties or fear of trust and intimacy
  • Feeling stuck in survival mode (“fight, flight, freeze, or shutdown”)

How Can I Help?
Using a combination of hypnotherapy, psychotherapy, nervous system regulation, and performance psychology approaches, I help clients gently reduce the emotional intensity connected to difficult experiences so the mind and body can begin to feel safe again. Together, we work to calm the nervous system, rebuild confidence, reduce triggers and anxiety responses, and help you regain a greater sense of control, resilience, and emotional balance. Sessions are always tailored to you, your pace, and your individual experiences, within a calm, supportive, and confidential environment.
