If you’ve experienced a fall or injury and something has changed in how you feel when you ride, you’re not alone. With the right support, it’s entirely possible to move past that and return to riding with calm confidence and control.
I’m a UK-based specialist in equestrian psychology, and since 2008 I’ve worked with riders at all levels, from leisure riders through to top professionals, helping them overcome trauma, riding anxiety, and performance blocks so they can ride with clarity, consistency, and trust in themselves again.
My work focuses on how your mind and body respond in the moment, using a combination of clinical hypnotherapy, NLP, performance psychology, and emotional resilience to create change that feels natural and lasting.
Alongside my clinical training, including a BSc in Clinical Hypnosis and a Postgraduate Diploma in Psychology of Mental Health and Wellbeing (with a Master’s currently in progress), I bring over 40 years of experience as a rider, instructor, and competitor, and as a British Horse Society (BHS AI) riding instructor and Intermediate Stable Manager, I understand both the psychology of riding and the reality of it, which means the work we do together translates directly into what happens in the saddle.
Overcome Fear of Horse Riding After the Trauma of a Fall or Injury
If your confidence has changed after a fall or accident, you’re not alone.
Many riders experience:
Even when you know you can ride, your body may react differently.
This is a natural response to a negative past experience, where your system stays on alert to prevent it happening again. With the right support, this response can be processed and released, so riding begins to feel natural and safe once more.
Restore Riding Confidence and Trust
Loss of confidence in horse riding often develops after a difficult experience, but it can also build gradually over time.
You may find yourself:
I work with riders, including professional and competitive riders, to resolve these patterns at their source, so confidence returns in a way that feels natural and reliable.
Equestrian Sports Psychology for Performance and Competition
Alongside confidence work, I support riders who want to perform at a higher level to:
At this level, the mental side of riding is the difference that makes the difference!
Calm Mind. Confident Riding. Consistent Performance.
When the underlying response to fear or pressure is resolved, riders typically experience:
These changes are often felt quickly and carry through into both training and competition.
